As part of its promotion of young scientists, the National Research Platform for Zoonoses offered a summer school for all PhD students working in the field of German zoonoses research. The two parallel sessions "Scientific Writing" and "Presenting Science" were held in Berlin from 16-18 September 2013. Under the title "Junior Scientist Zoonoses Meeting (JSZM) 2013" the first official meeting of young scientists of the National Research Platform for Zoonoses took place from 3rd to 5th June 2013. The venue was the BioCity Leipzig. 32 participants from different research locations and disciplines took part in the event. During the event, Ms. Claudia Kohl from the Robert Koch Institute Berlin (RKI Berlin) was elected as representative of young scientists in the Internal Advisory Board of the Zoonoses Platform. After the successful Junior Scientist Zoonoses Meeting 2013, the JSZM 2014 of the National Research Platform for Zoonoses took place from 2-4 June 2014. This year's venue was the Werkhof Hannover. More than 40 junior scientists from different institutions and disciplines took part in the event. In the course of the event, Dr. Susanne Röhrs (Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute, Riems), representing young scientists, was elected member of the internal advisory board of the Zoonoses Platform. In previous years, Leipzig and Hanover were the venues of the "Junior Scientist Zoonoses Meeting" (JSZM) of the National Research Platform for Zoonoses in both East and West Germany. The 2015 meeting took place in the south of Germany from 8-10 June, more precisely in Oberschleißheim near Munich. In organisational and content-related cooperation with Prof. Dr. Manfred Gareis, member of the National Research Platform for Zoonoses and holder of the Chair for Food Safety at the LMU Munich, 47 young scientists from various institutions and disciplines were able to use the premises for the meeting

The Junior Scientist Zoonoses Meeting (JSZM) took place in 2016 from 1 to 3 June in the German Primate Center (DPZ) in Göttingen. This special venue provided the 32 participating young scientists from different departments and research institutions in Germany with an adequate setting for an exciting and varied programme.
